inspiration

Since last summer, I've been wanting to put some pretty plants on my fire escape. Prospect Park may be right across the street, and at work there's Madison Square Park, so it's not like I'm living in a concrete jungle or whatever, but I feel like it would be nice to try to grow some stuff of my own. Plus there is my slight obsession with window boxes, which you see on tons of the brownstones around Brooklyn. I don't know if I can justify spending $20 on a nice terracotta one, plus I don't really want to drag one all the way home from Home Depot in midtown, so I think I may go with these fantastic pink (plastic) ones I found.

Next up is doing some research on when to plant things--I'm thinking growing basil would be awesome, and maybe some mini sunflowers too.

I think I'm going to try herbs again this year. I started with some seedlings last year, and they died in one day (one day!) but those pictures are just too pretty--and I love the way they smell.

Let me know how it goes!

i'm growing mini sunflowers right now! I'm so excited. Right now there are no flowers yet, but they're still cute! I'll probably post pictures on my blog sometime soon.
